-Jordan is a Muslim country and very conservative. Men and women should dress respectfully.
-Alcohol may not be available everywhere. Typically it is served in the areas you find tourists.
-Smoking is very common and normal here. You will even see people relaxing and sharing a Middle Eastern water pipe. Relax; it's only fruit flavored tobacco.
-Royal Jordanian Airlines offers nonstop flights to Amman from JFK. The airline or quality of service was not really anything special but the nonstop flight was a plus.
-Taxis are extremely inexpensive and often the most convenient form of transportation if you are on your own.
-I recommend taking an organized tour instead of trying this trip on your own because the language barrier, hazardous driving conditions and long distances will wear you out.
