All it took was our daughter saying that she was going to visit her brothers in Chapel Hill for the weekend. The flight was booked and so was the convertible! Sea Island, Georgia...here we come!
After crossing the new HUGE bridge (always a signal that our vacation is beginning), we could see the G-8 flags, the marsh, the skeet range, a few horseback riders AND… The Cloister! A new guardhouse has replaced the old toll road and the guard…. “Hello, Mr. and Mrs. Shore, we are glad you’re here!” I was reminded that it is always nice to be expected. We were given instructions to The Cloister, passed the familiar “Welcome to Sea Island” sign and the presidential oak trees, then…..everything was NEW!
We had heard that the “Old” Cloister was no more. It HAS changed and it doesn’t look like it did 27 years ago. But, neither do we! However, it is BEAUTIFUL and yes, we had a wonderful time. The food was delicious, the beach pleasant, the spa soothing…complete with hot tub, cool tub and waterfall, yoga classes and a full workout room, fountains, swimming pool, old time tennis courts, a bicycle hut, a world renown golf course with bag pipes included…and….the people were delightful, professional and focused on service.
We enjoyed exercising, exploring the island (lots of Spanish moss!), shopping for bug spray, walking on the beach, eating lots of tasty dishes, the Oak room and just being on vacation.
