Meteorologist calling for snow? Head to Fall Creek Cabins!

Ricky and I are warming up to the idea of being empty nesters.  Our daughter left on a church ski trip and we headed to Fall Creek Cabins near Boone and Blowing Rock, NC.  They are just an hour’s drive from Winston-Salem; make it a little over an hour in the snow.

The car was packed with EVERYTHING we needed….sleds, movies, lobster, bathing suits, sweatshirts, steak and fire starters!  We left home just about the time the snow started to fall.  The drive was easy, especially since we had visited a few Thanksgivings ago.  We knew where we were going and if YOU go, drive straight up 421 toward the mountains!  Turn right on Fall Creek Road at the “Yellow Hill Baptist Church” sign. The Fall Creek Cabins sign is a mile ahead!  It is truly private.  The gate is locked and if it is dark, using your flash light, headlights or a cell phone light, you follow specific instructions on how to “open sesame!”

We drove up the mountain to find our cabin waiting for us.  Ricky backed the car into what would be its parking place for 48 hours.  We unloaded and Ricky added more wood to the pile that had been left for the fireplace!   The cabins have ALL the comforts of home and a little more: full kitchen (with coffee filters in case you forget yours!), hot tub, digital television (a nice addition, and one you don’t have to turn on!), wireless internet and most importantly, a large fireplace with lots of wood!

After a snow that covered the running board of our car, we sledded and even took a snow hike.  We thoroughly enjoyed the call of the mountains and realized that all stress had been left in Winston-Salem.  It’s a “do-over!”

Since this trip is a “Do It Yourself” trek…..tell them Aladdin sent you!
