It should be! Oddly enough, some of the landscape and plants reminded me of North Carolina, which makes some sense, since Bermuda is due east of NC. But, there were still plenty of palm trees, warm sand, and turquoise water to make it feel like a tropical vacation.
There are two Fairmont hotels on Bermuda – one in town, The Hamilton Princess, and one on the beach, The Southampton. Both are lovely and appealing in different ways. If you want to browse the shops in town and enjoy the nightlife, stay in Hamilton. If you want to lounge on the beach, stay in Southampton. Either way, you can ride the free ferry boat between the two hotels. In general, the Gold Floor (Fairmont’s club level) is a good value, including breakfast and snacks throughout the day, and the private check-in and concierge were very helpful.
Bermuda offers quite a few terrific restaurants, both in the Fairmonts and around the island. We experienced and would highly recommend the Waterlot Inn, Fourways Inn, and the Barracuda Grill. Taxis are easy to come-by and the drivers are friendly and helpful; actually, all of the Bermudians we met were extremely friendly and are clearly proud of their beautiful island. Bermuda is a golfers’ paradise (so I’ve been told – I don’t golf) and the Southampton has a course at its door.
This is a great destination in the fall, as the weather is getting cooler at home, it’s a short flight from the east coast to a tropical vacation in BDA. CDG
