Ireland...Day 2!

We thought we were saving money getting a manual transmission rental car. Bad Idea!  Driving on the "wrong" side of the road (left side!) is traumatic enough without having to figure out the 6 forward gears of a Land Rover.  The driver never saw the gorgeous green countryside...especially when we went left the highways for the VERY narrow and curvy byways.

Funniest thing of the day:  The highway sign that read:  Heavy Plant Crossing.  You can imagine the image that came to our minds.

Kilkenny is delightful and worth a stop! We stayed at The Butler House which is attached to the castle in the middle of town.  Breakfast was actually served in what used to be the stable just outside the castle.  It's been turned into a government-owned arts and crafts national design center.  Several shops have the most wonderful sweaters, jewelry, pottery, etc.  I purchased a merino wool cardigan sweater for less than $50 and I would have liked to get more!
