The young Republic of Croatia is a blend of Balkan, Central Europe and Mediterranean cultures. It was discovered by the yachting rich and famous back in the 1950s as an attractive travel destination and is fast emerging today as a leading vacation spot.
Historic cities and towns have become cultural centers. Dubrovnik, Jewel of the Adriatic, is a perfect example. This walled city is similar to Venice but without the canals and easier to manage. Many interesting restaurants and plentiful shopping are available here.
Beach resorts are numerous and luxurious, but probably the best way to see the country is by boat. Generally sailboats or small ships sail from Split and island hop to Brac, Hvar, Korcula, on the way to Dubrovnik. Overnights are scheduled to give passengers time to explore.
Croatia is still more affordable than its neighbor, Italy, and it has much to offer – beautiful beaches, clean water, amazing scenery, historic cities and villages, palaces and castles.
