Emily on Eating Your Way Through Charleston
Charleston, SC is quite possibly my favorite city in the world. Not only is it beautiful and full of history, but it also home to some of the best restaurants in the Southeast.
There are a ton of great places to stay in downtown Charleston. By far the best hotel downtown is
Charleston Place. It’s an Orient Express hotel located right off the market and the service is five star. The rooms are spacious and beautiful, but you get what you pay for- it is not cheap! If you are looking for more of a bargain, both the
Mills House and the
Marriott offer full service hotel amenities at lower rates, although I would not call either overly impressive. The downtown area is full of smaller, more charming hotel options. One of my favorites is the
Andrew Pickney Inn. It is a great location and the roof top terrace is a wonderful place to enjoy an evening glass of wine and watch the sunset.
Usually my biggest problem is deciding where to eat while in Charleston. There are so many amazing options it can be hard to choose. Most local restaurants offer variations on modern Southern cuisine. Some of my favorites are
Slightly North of Broad (SNOB) and
High Cotton. Once you have satisfied your need for low country dishes, I highly recommend the Italian restaurant
Fulton Five. The romantic roof top terrace and extensive wine list make it the perfect spot for a date.
