A Tale Of Two Resorts

Some of life's best gifts don't  need dusting.  Significant birthday or anniversary on the horizon? Think travel. Ricky and I began our tropical vacation in Jamaica at Couples Swept Away.  Later in the week, we transferred to Couples Sans Souci.  Both resorts were lots of fun Flying Over Couples Swept Awayyet COMPLETELY different.

Upon landing in Jamaica, we gathered our luggage and went to the Couples Lounge in the airport.  Red Stripe and water were offered while we waited for the van.  Tip: The van ride to Negril is an hour and a half.  You can take a small plane and fly to Negril in 12 minutes.  We did this and were glad we did.

Couples Swept Away is all inclusive resort and offers everything your heart desires.  The oceanfront is along Negril's seven mile beach with plenty of lounge chairs, palm trees, water sports, beach bars, pools, pool bars and of course, the classic places to catch a bite!  Ricky and I enjoyed lunch at the Cabana Grill and we particularly enjoyed our meal at Feathers.  The buffets are extensive and offer delicious foods.  We preferred The Resort's a la carte restaurants.

Our room was tropically rustic and we purposely spent more time outside.  Tip: Stay on or near the beach.  The garden veranda rooms are too close to the road.

The sports complex at this resort is the best we have seen. The Olympic size pool, clay tennis courts, squash and raquet ball courts and all the usual exercise equipment surround a delightfully fresh fruit smoothie sports bar. Forgot to mention the par course and running track, pilates, yoga and cycling classes.  The complex truly is fabulous.  Tip: We never waited for any activity.  The lines are longer for the buffets.

Our visit to the spa was a treat.  Nancy and Michelle gave us DEEP tissue massages and Ricky did not fall asleep.  Make sure you allow time for a soak in the whirlpool.  It was a delightful way to prepare for our treatment.

If you have a chance, do the sunset catamaran cruise.  Yes, it is called the "booze cruise" for a reason.   The glass bottom boat  and snorkeling trips are also nice adventures.

Once the sun sets, guests can enjoy a private dinner on the beach, bonfires, name that tune in the popular piano bar and a whole lot more.  The starting times were usually after our bedtime.

Couples Swept Away in Negril is on our "do over" list and is best suited for groups of friends looking for a tropical vacation or incentive travel.  However, we saw many French manicures and lots of new wedding bands!

On to Sans Souci....
