There is nothing like hearing a steel drum band performing holiday music to get you in the spirit of the season! We had less than 24 hours between our arrival in Antigua and our scheduled embarkation on a SeaDream cruise. Our goal was to find a hotel that was close to both the airport and the port and not break the bank for the one night. Maybe it was because our expectations were low, they were far surpassed!
Based on nothing more than positive trip advisor reviews and a map of the island showing it was located near the airport AND the port, I decided Blue Waters was the place for our 24 hours in Antigua. Turns out, the folks at Signature agree that it is a little gem. After confirming our reservation, I found out that booking Blue Waters through Aladdin and our Signature rates, guarantees travelers certain amenities… A champagne breakfast on your patio on a day of guest's choosing and $100 resort credit per room, per stay. *Three (3) Night Minimum Stay Required.
A few things to note:
They have free wi fi that works well pretty much everywhere.
There are plenty of suite and villa options for families.
Standard rooms and bathrooms are small, but they have amazing views and large balconies.
Deluxe ocean rooms are hanging off the side of the mountain over the ocean.
Friendly staff members greet you by name and offer theirs in return.
With only 80 some rooms and lots of intimate spots (small patios, chairs), three pools plus multiple beaches with umbrellas and chairs, you are not overwhelmed by the presence of other guests.
As a former British colony that still has regular non-stop flights to and from London, Antigua is a popular destination for Europeans. This means foreign accents and plenty of smokers.
The food is really very good and on par with Jumby Bay and any 5 star Caribbean resort. They have an excellent wine list and house liquors include Absolut and other premium brands.
It is just a $15 taxi ride to both the port and the airport, so it couldn't be more convenient.
The rooms are not very sound proofed. Loud birds and folks walking the tile hallways can be heard easily. Opening the balcony door and letting the sound of the crashing waves just outside the door will drown out the noise.
All public spaces and most restaurants are open air. You will experience the heat and humidity of the Caribbean… and the birds … and the bugs.
The grounds are beautifully landscaped with lush palm trees and bougainvillea hanging off of anything that doesn't move.
Finally….They offer an all inclusive rate plan. Given the quality of the food… Do It! EDV
